Positive solutions.
Real results.

“Hi, I’m Jamin Harkness. I’ve spent four years on the Duluth City Council and now serve as a Gwinnett County Planning Commissioner, delivering real results—lower crime, stronger neighborhoods, and inclusive programming that brings people together.

Vote for Jamin Harkness on May 19, for Georgia State Senate District 7.

Affordability

I’ll fight for smart policies that address the real drivers of affordability, from housing and insurance costs to healthcare costs. I will propose expanding low income tax credits for our renters, and offering State of Georgia-backed low interest construction loans for affordable housing (this has been successfully done in Florida).

Civil Rights

Rights and freedoms shape our real lives and families. Government should protect individual liberties, dignity, and equal treatment under the law for everyone. And because democracy depends on accessible elections, I support modernizing election administration, expanding voter access, and protecting the right to vote for every eligible Georgian.

Public Education

I will oppose cuts to public education and fight for stable, equitable funding so every child, regardless of ZIP code, has access to high-quality schools and well-supported educators for years to come. My son will soon be a proud graduate of the Georgia Public School system and has benefited greatly from public education, including trade-school opportunities.

About me

Your issues are my issues. They’re personal to me.

I’m running for State Senate because affordability, healthcare, housing, child and family stability and, public education matter deeply to me.

While on the Duluth City Council I supported policies that decreased crime by 36%, and led the city’s inclusive programming with Multicultural Week, as well as our Pride Month exhibits and celebration.

Equality for all

Immigration, LGBTQ Equality and Reproductive Rights are core issues that define our time.

Immigration

My husband came to this country as an immigrant and is now a proud U.S. citizen. Our story reminds me every day that America is strongest when we welcome hard-working families, uphold the rule of law, and treat people with fairness and respect.

LGBTQ

Everyone deserves to live safely, openly, and with dignity. I will stand against discrimination and work to ensure LGBTQ Georgians are treated equally—no exceptions.

Reproductive Rights

Jamin supports the Reproductive Freedom Act because healthcare decisions belong to patients —not politicians. He will defend reproductive rights while working to improve maternal outcomes and family health across Georgia.

It’s personal

I’m running for State Senate because affordability, healthcare, housing, child and family stability, and public education matter deeply to me.

Our adopted son will soon be a proud graduate of Georgia’s public school system

I know that public schools are the backbone of strong communities because our adopted son is a senior in public high school who has benefited from trade-school opportunities. I will fight for full funding of our public schools including vocational education programs that create real value for our communities while providing economic security for graduates who may enter the workforce

Initiatives I supported on Duluth City Council protected families by reducing crime 36% over the last four years

Gwinnett’s crime rates remain lower than many peer counties, and that success must be protected. While serving on the Duluth City Council and actively supporting law enforcement initiatives, crime dropped by 36% over the last four years—proof that smart, data-driven leadership works. Jamin supports fully staffing and equipping our police department, investing in evidence-based policing, and continuing the strategies that have made Gwinnett one of the safest large counties in Georgia.

Housing affordability starts with supply, smart incentives, and accountability.

Jamin will propose expanding of Low Income Tax Credits for our renters, and State of Georgia-backed Low Interest Construction Loans for Affordable Housing (this has been wildly successful in Florida). Jamin also supports incentivizing housing development through renewing and expanding Tax Allocation Districts (TADs) and Opportunity Zones, along with targeted tax credits and public-private partnerships that unlock under-utilized land.

Children & Families need our help

Georgia Republicans have mismanaged the Department of Family and Children Services, creating an $85 million budget shortfall that is cutting foster care support, mental health services, and care for children with special needs—even while the state has a surplus. Fiscal responsibility means investing early, not paying more after systems fail kids.

Reserves exist for moments like this—when core responsibilities are under strain. This isn’t welfare. It’s stability for Georgia’s children and families.
